"NEW" NORTHWEST IS HERE

In 2000 Northwest Community Center, a distinguished and dedicated group of community leaders, under the leadership of co-chairs, Tom Bradley and John Hecht, embarked on a $1.2 million capital campaign to renovate the 55 year old community center.

The campaign is only the second capital campaign in the center's history.  The first was successfully realized 30 years ago.  That campaign, chaired by Harry Ritter, raised funds to rebuild the center's main building after a disastrous fire destroyed much of the center.  Mr. Ritter serves on the current campaign, where he brings leadership and guidance invaluable to the campaign.

Campaign funds will be used to add a computer technology center, expand program space for the center's partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, renovate the center's Fitness Facility (the only on the west side of Rockford), provide appropriate accommodations for social service programs for at risk youth and their families, and to extend the useful life of the facility.

Community Technology Center at Northwest

One of the significant aspects of the capital campaign added a computer technology center (C.T.C) to Northwest Community Center.  This C.T.C will be the focal point for providing computer based learning opportunities on Rockford's west side.

Rock Valley College offers a schedule of computer classes at the C.T.C.  Recently, Rock River Training Corporation awarded Northwest a grant to provide computer-based job training skills to adults over age 55 (LLEAP).  The Boys & Girls Club at Northwest is planning after school program opportunities in the C.T.C.
